Overall, the hotel stay was fantastic as always. Once a year I enjoy staying at this hotel for a few days. If it is one absolute feature I yearn to enjoy every year it is the double shower head massage spray. Simple pleasures.
Once again the stay revolved around likely one of the biggest conventions to hit Pittsburgh, namely, Anthrocon 2012.
The conveninece and location of hotel to convention center can't be beat. over 5,000 of us crazy fans managed a lot of wear and tear and only minor escalator service, and only one elevator that I saw, was down for minor bits of service.
A bit of a miss for hotel was some unknown issue with maintaining reservations and assigning the rooms requested. I had requested two double beds, but was assigned one king bed. Hotel staff was diligent about getting the availability of a roll away bed to assist, and thankfully a fellow roomie had thoght to bring an air mattress too.
Our housekeeper (never managed to get her name, sorrowfully) was awesome. Small little extras like arranging a few stuffed animal foxes on pillows, giving us extra couple towels daily for towel service.
Also on the mild frustration list was a necessity to call downstairs for minor bathroom maintenance twice during the 5 day stay, both times for a clogged toilet issue. I would hope it was just our room in particular. The response was very prompt and efficient, but I'm slightly disappointed that the calls had to be made in the first place.
Back to the big win column. Love the pool area. Fantastic small lanes of lap swimming with a luxurious hot tub in a corner and both a wet and dry sauna in the locker room areas. Perhaps the only small drawback is the specific accessibility to the pool and recreation floor. Only by elevators, to the fourth floor. Probably not a big issue in normal circumstances but during our convention that overcrowds the elevators, makes it a 'challenge' to get there and back to the rooms.
I enjoyed a buffet style dinner on Sunday from the catering crew at Westin. They never fail in delivering...but hey, could you possibly see about changing up our "usual menu" at all? It's getting too familiar. switch it up for 2013! (but not the desserts! you can keep those!)
Convention room spaces were ample and well used and hotel staff were excellent about keeping multiple water stations refreshed on very frequent basis. Especially nice since our convention has hyper dancing video gamers for active games like Dance Dance Revolution (and others) and also people in animal based costumes (aka 'fursuits') who need to escape for hydration frequently.
I'd like to rate the SPG program benefits higher, but as is often case, I never seem to know any additional benefits, other than getting the points per stay. I'd like to see double or triple points for any Anthrocon weekend starting next year and beyond as long as the convention stays in city. Or at the very least perhaps less points overall needed to cash in for a free night stay.
